Hello my friends! How was your weekend? We still have Sunday stretching before us, a nice cozy time in front of the fire. The kids and Caleb headed off to do some errands. Hayden elected to stay here with us and enjoy some quiet time to draw and sing, he's so sweet. Yesterday I packed up all the Halloween decor and Kristi took down our pumpkin lights and we put it all in bins which K took upstairs to store until next year. She brought out the bin she filled with Thanksgiving things when she did the organizing in my craft studio. We still have some work to do in there, but it's a lot better than it was! I put on a fresh tablecloth and arranged my turkeys and Indian corn on the table.
To me these things down the center of our table are a sign of bounty for our family. I enjoy seeing the objet d'art. Definition - "A small decorative or artistic object, typically when regarded as a collectible item."
I can't remember when I found and purchased this funny glass turkey candy dish - but I love it. Do you see my little photo bomber?
My beloved Majolica turkeys.. I got two since they are smallish - about 5 inches tall. I've had readers tell me that it's not really Majolica.. but to me it is. So, I just googled "majolica turkey" and guess what was there? Images of MY turkeys! So, I guess I've done my part to make them what I think they are for the world to see. LOL!! :-)
Each year I try to pick up one new item and this year I got the Jim Shore turkey sitting on a pumpkin with 2 apples in front. He fits in fine! A few years ago I found 2 of these little glass turkey candle holders which are fun to put on the Thanksgiving table for extra candlelight.
I miss the outdoor flowers this time of year, but my African violet is filling my floral needs.
My mother's Christmas cactus is in bloom in our garden window. Those who have been visiting my blog for a while will know the story - but I rescued this plant from my dying mother's room - it was dried up to the point of tossing it. But I brought it home and watered it and put it in my window, and not long after my mother passed away, I noticed it was budding out and then to my surprise these absolutely gorgeous fuchsia colored blooms opened. I always take it to mean that my mother is saying hello to me.
We've had a perfect Autumn weekend so far - yesterday our DIL Kristi made her very first prime rib dinner for us. She baked bread, roasted the prime rib (I just wish you could have smelled our house), made Yukon Gold garlic mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. :-)
And it was good. Very very good. :-)
And after dinner, we watched "OZ, the Great & Powerful" - the boys were pretty impressed with it.. so was grandpa! The funny thing is we haven't been able to watch DVDs for years until our brilliant son Travis downloaded new firmware and installed it and got the thing to work. YAY!
How was your weekend? I'm heading off to a birthday party for my friends granddaughter - but won't stay long as we have Hayden with us. We've got sun shining in between clouds, but it's a nice fall day here. I hope it's nice where you are in this wonderful spinning globe! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
